Production stage - what research and planning you could/should be doing

Right, we are heading into the really busy bit! Don't neglect your blogs though. Everything you post will go towards your research and planning mark, will help me and the external examiner understand your thought processes and also-if you are doing the work anyway, you should be rewarded/credited for it and to do that you need to evidence it. There are some easy wins here!

So here's a quick ten things to blog about

1. A copy of your email requesting permission (copyright - see post below) Request for copyright email
2. Copy of your risk assessment
3. Copy of your storyboard
4. Copy of your shooting schedule
5. Works in progress - get some photos of the editing process, rough drafts of CD covers/websites etc
6. Audience feedback. With your front page of your CD ask/interview a few people about their preferences etc. Record it and show how you have acted on feedback.
7. Shots from/reflections on the shoot. What went well? What didn't? What problems have you faced and how have you overcome these? Either record yourself talking about this or write it down.
8. Embed any YouTube instructional videos with or music videos which include camera, photoshop or techniques
9. Before/during shooting - get some extra photos on your phone. Blog about the stylistic influences you have gone for, explain your mise-en-scene choices etc
10. Location scouting: photos/reporting/any changes you have had to make and why.

Remember - your blog should be a well-written, visually interesting scrapbook documenting your music video (ahem) journey from June until now. It should be organised and sophisticated but that does not mean you have to pretend to be invincible: ideas go wrong, change etc...it is good to reflect on these as this is the learning process.

You can continue to blog all the way up to the evaluation deadline but it is much better and more meaningful to blog-as-you-go!

Make sure you organise your blog into sections.

Once again, don't neglect the blog.

Text for email (copyright) to send to record companies

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to you to request to use ___________________by _____________ for my A2 Media Studies coursework production.

Our task is to make a music video to an existing song. The song will be for non-profit educational purposes and only used for the purpose of educational assessment and will be transformative in that no copyrighted material (other than the song) will feature in the final music video. Furthermore, it will be clearly labelled as a production for this purpose.

I hope that this request will be viewed by yourselves as fair and proper use under existing copyright guidelines. If you have any further questions regarding its purpose, please contact my teacher at welchch@tuptonhall.derbyshire.sch.uk

Yours sincerely,
